“Kingdom of Ravens” – Available Now!

It’s finally here! 🙂

I’m so proud and happy to announce the release of my first stand-alone YA novel Kingdom of Ravens, which is available through Amazon in paperback, hardcover, and Kindle editions.

The idea for this story came to me in 2015 and it’s been through numerous iterations, from a trilogy, to a duology, to an extremely long stand-alone (as in 100,000+ words too long!), to finally a YA novel. I’ve never ventured into YA before, but I felt like Rosalyn and Sebastian’s story was ultimately the best fit for a teen audience (though adults can read it, too!). I love these characters so much as well as their world and the lore that envelopes it. And I’m elated to finally share it with the world.

Check out all the details below (as well as under the Publications – Books tab above). Happy reading! 🙂

A princess who is a raven,
A low-level thug with a heart of gold.
What secrets and dangers abound
in their worlds of steel and
snow?

In the snowy kingdom of Sardonia…

Rosalyn Everard is a winged protector in the body of a princess. Ever since childhood, she can transform into a silver-white raven capable of avenging those who have been wronged. But if she should ever use her gifts for personal revenge, she’ll be destroyed by the God who gave her and her ancestors their powers.

In the steel city of Usher Falls…

Sebastian Murdoch wants nothing more than to escape the clutches of his aunt, a nefarious underground crime boss. Forced to carry out her dirty deeds, he undermines her power by trying to unveil the mystery behind his father’s death. But if Sebastian is ever discovered, he’ll meet his own fate in a watery grave.

Rosalyn and Sebastian’s paths will cross and their worlds – one of regal splendor, the other of urban decay – will collide. But will they survive the aftermath, or will dangerous forces and desperate secrets force them apart?

Kingdom of Ravens is a stand-alone clean YA story.

Content:
Language – None. Ivy often mutters the term snowflakes as a exclamatory remark.

Violence – Nothing in terms of anything graphic or gory. A chief plot point is the mystery surrounding the murder of Sebastian’s father, but no details are given as to the nature of his death. Elsewhere, Indigo threatens Sebastian and makes an attempt on his life as well as on the lives of others. Sebastian is forced to bury a dead body, but no details are given as to how the man died other than Indigo ordered him killed. A character is attacked off-page by a creature, and Rosalyn (in her Lumirifinn form) goes after some evil-doers. No details are shared other than mentions of blood, broken bones, and/or scratches. The legend behind the Lumirifinn consists of two versions, one involving an injured bear (who survives) and the other about a young girl whose family is killed by a rival clan. No graphic depictions of blood, gore, or violence in either case are described. Lastly, some characters find themselves in perilous situations but escape unscathed.

Sexual Content – None. Passing mention is made to underground (i.e. illegal) cabaret clubs, but no further details are shared. Sebastian encounters a girl employed as a dancer by one such club, but no details are given as to the nature of her work. Elsewhere, Sebastian and Rosalyn share a few chaste kisses but nothing progresses.

Substance Abuse – Rosedust is a hallucinogenic drug trafficked by criminals and distributed in illegal underground speakeasies; however, no one ever uses the drug on-page. It’s effects are briefly described and its usage is discouraged by the lead characters. One character accidentally inhales some rosedust and briefly suffers from its effects.
